Where Our Coatings Are Used

Use Cases

Chassis and Frame Hardware

Frame rail bolts, crossmember hardware, underbody brackets, hold-down hardware, and the heavy-gauge fasteners that hold a commercial chassis together across a million-mile service life.

Drivetrain and Powertrain Components

Slip yokes, U-joint hardware, differential pins, driveline and transmission shafts, transfer case hardware, and the actuators that drive shift and engagement systems.

Brake, Air, and Hydraulic Systems

Brake line clips, air brake components, hydraulic line brackets, ABS sensor hardware, fuel-line clips, and the steel tubing and fittings that route fluid and air across the vehicle.

Electrical and High-Voltage Hardware

Sensor contacts, connector hardware, bus bars, terminal lugs, and grounding components — covering both ICE engine and chassis electronics and the high-voltage hardware in battery-electric trucks.

Cab, Body, and Trailer Connection Hardware

Door and hood hinge hardware, exterior trim fasteners, mirror brackets, fifth-wheel hardware, and the trailer-connection components that take loads and weather every day.

What These Finishes Do

Key Benefits

Severe Under-Vehicle Corrosion Resistance

Plating that withstands the road salt, brine, mud, and chemical exposure under-vehicle hardware faces every winter, with salt-spray performance routinely meeting the 720-hour and 1000+ hour ASTM B117 requirements heavy-duty truck OEMs specify.

Hydrogen Embrittlement Control

In-house relief baking on the high-strength chassis fasteners and structural bolts that hold a commercial vehicle together, scheduled within the time windows ASTM F1940 and OEM specifications require.

Wear and Friction Reduction

Lubricity and wear-resistant finishes on drivetrain components that take vibration, torque, and contact stress over hundreds of thousands of miles.

OEM and IATF 16949 Compliance

Process control aligned with IATF 16949 quality management and the corrosion, adhesion, and dimensional specifications published by the major Class 4 through Class 8 OEMs and their tier suppliers.

Electrical Conductivity

Low contact resistance on sensor terminals, engine and transmission connectors, and the bus bars and lugs that move current through battery-electric commercial vehicle systems.

Environmental Compliance

Trivalent chromium passivation and fully hexavalent-chromium-free finishes that meet RoHS, REACH, and end-of-life vehicle directives now required across the commercial vehicle supply chain.

Protective Coatings for Commercial Vehicles

A commercial truck has a different kind of life from a passenger car. It runs hundreds of thousands of miles, often over a million. It carries weight that compounds every vibration and every loose connection. It moves over salted highways every winter and into construction sites every summer. And it has to keep doing all of that long after the warranty period ends, because uptime is the business. The plating on every fastener, every bracket, every connector, and every shaft is part of what keeps that uptime intact.

CMC supplies the protective finishes that Class 4 through Class 8 vehicle manufacturers and their tier suppliers specify when severe under-vehicle service, long warranty exposure, and the transition to battery-electric powertrains all converge on the same supply chain. Our menu covers the full vehicle: zinc-nickel for the chassis and underbody hardware that lives under salt and brine for a decade; phosphate for the structural parts that get painted before they ship; tin for the connectors, lugs, and high-voltage hardware that moves current through BEV systems; and electroless nickel for the precision drivetrain components that can’t tolerate dimensional drift. We run IATF 16949-aligned process control, trivalent chromium passivation, fully hexavalent-chromium-free chemistries, and in-house hydrogen embrittlement relief baking for the high-strength fasteners that commercial vehicle assemblies depend on.

Across four facilities and 17 processing lines, we have the volume to support OEM and tier-supplier production programs and the engineering depth to recommend the right finish before a sample ever goes on a line. Send us a print or a part description and we’ll match the right process to the duty cycle, the operating environment, and the specification your program runs to.

Supplying parts to a commercial vehicle program?

Send us a drawing, a specification, or a part description. We’ll recommend the right finish for the chassis, the drivetrain, the brake and air systems, or the high-voltage hardware your program needs, scoped to the OEM spec, the duty cycle, and the volume your supply chain runs to.
